





Learning how to use blockchain and crypto technology can be daunting today. Kadet Wallet serves to be a truly beginner-friendly crypto wallet meant to help people who don't know how crypto works. Tech Fleet is the client for this product, incubating it open source.
I took Project Lead role on the team. There was a team of 15+ researchers, designers, product managers, and developers combined on both project phases. I led and coached the team across product management, user research, design, and development. I took part in research and product management.
Kadet Wallet web extension is multi-chain, serving Kadena, Ethereum, Polygon, Binance, and others. It allows users to hold crypto tokens and NFTs and has features specifically for new users of crypto.

New to this phase: we added UX writing roles and worked on the Kadet Wallet information website landing page for entry into the Kadet customer experience.




Experienced blockchain users already understand how to use blockchain and are familiar with the technology. Typically these users have more technical needs like for development or advanced trading.
Inexperienced blockchain users may be tech savvy with general websites and apps but don't understand how blockchain works.


We learned that getting into blockchain often starts with an easy "barrier to entry" through apps like Coinbase or Robinhood. Web wallets come into play only after someone learns initial blockchain concepts AND has an interest to use blockchain for other purposes.
We learned most people need to first learn about the other uses of blockchain (games, DeFi, infrastructure, node operation, etc.) and then they will move off "centralized apps". This is the point in the customer experience where a web extension wallet experience comes into play for users.




The product team and research team performed competitive analysis in different areas to understand the market and opportunities. The team prioritized key user needs and user-friendly features. They looked at how they could apply a sustainable revenue model to the wallet app by measuring what others did in the market.

The product team orchestrated the product backlog and product requirements based on our roadmap. They worked to prioritize the epics and features, then created user stories, acceptance criteria, and BDD scenarios.

The product team worked together with the design team to produce development hand-off artifacts to convey the requirements. This included prototype annotations and task flow charts.

Based on our research about the process of getting into crypto and the struggles of learning crypto, the UX writing team ran branding and content strategy workshops. Then UX writing and Design teams worked together to create content and designs for the info website and Kadet Wallet on-boarding. The website covers information about the wallet, learn about the possibilities of web3 and crypto with Kadet, and link to places where they can learn more about blockchain.

We learned in research that users who are new to blockchain make mistakes that they aren't aware of due to the innards of each blockchain. Every blockchain has its own logic and requires knowledge of how to use. Kadet Wallet is designed to automatically detect things that are specifically important for specific blockchains, and detects whether the user is doing it correctly. It warns the user or prevents actions if they are doing something that might risk them losing funds or having their transaction fail. Users reacted positively to this concept in testing.

We learned that users struggle to understand the concepts of blockchain, and don't understand the importance of securely storing private keys. The Kadet on-boarding flow provides useful context to users who might not know important considerations when setting up wallets. The writing, research, and design teams cross-functionally collaborated to design the content and interaction of the on-boarding.

The "send KDA from multiple chains" feature served users who had to overcome the learning curve of Kadena by overriding it completely. They don't have to think about how much KDA to send from what chain, they simply select the amount and from / to. The team iterated on the send flow in the prototypes over time, taking results from usability testing to make adjustments in each project phase to improve the usability.

Today testing beta apps on Blockchain testnets are complex and require tech savvy. Kadet Wallet allows for a much easier way to interact with blockchain "testnet" networks and receive testnet tokens for participating in beta testing with projects.

Kadet Wallet lets users know what's happening behind the scenes. For example, here it breaks down which Kadena chains tokens are coming from and going to, which allows users to understand what's going on behind the scenes and builds their confidence in using crypto technology.

There are lots of NFT "wallets" on web apps and mobile apps, but not many on web extensions today. The NFT wallet for Kadet allows to easily send, receive, and see stats for your NFT's right in the wallet without having to connect to a web3 page to see your NFT. Users reacted positively to this feature and said it would bring a lot of value to a wallet if they were able to see their NFT in-app.
